Shenzhen should learn from Hong Kong, Taipei and Shanghai about protecting the relics from its past, and thus enrich its cultural atmosphere, said Chen Wei, head of the local culture bureau at a city-to-city cultural exchange conference, which ended in Shenzhen yesterday.
The culture bureau of Shenzhen will cooperate with the three cities to pool more archeological and heritage protection resources, and refer to their laws and regulations in enhancing local heritage protection laws, according to Chen.
The conference, an annual meeting of representatives from Hong Kong, Taipei, Shanghai and Shenzhen, is a platform for cultural exchange among the four cities. Since it was first held in 1998, it has strengthened mutual understanding and promoted cultural development in these cities.
With the theme of "city and its memory," the three-day conference this year focused on how to protect a city's heritage.
"Although a young city, Shenzhen needs to keep its memories, which shall bring more connotations to its culture. We expect experiences from our peers about how to effectively record the historical moments in more artistic modes, such as photos, DVs, literature and dramas," said Chen.
An photo exhibition was inaugurated Friday at Shenzhen's Guan Shanyue Art Museum. More than 160 old photos were displayed, which highlighted some interesting historical events or figures in the four cities. The exhibition will run till Nov. 15.
