Nowadays, more and more private enterprises start international businesses. According to the Guangdong Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, in the first 4 months of 2005, over 4100 private enterprises were registered to conduct international trade, and 92.4% of them were new export enterprises.

Private enterprises are now playing an important role in Guangdong's foreign-oriented economy. Since China permitted private international trade enterprises in 1999, the number of private trading companies has increased from 459 to 31,000. The total annual export value increased 187% from 348 million USD to 35.85 billion USD, which is 10% of the total export value in Guangdong.
