The Yangtai Mountain Forest Park Administration Office was established at a grand tree-planting ceremony in Bao'an District on Tuesday, marking the official start of the city's first forest park.
To cost a total of 120 million yuan (US$14 million), the construction of the forest park is expected to be completed in 2010. The park will span Bao'an and Nanshan districts on an area of 28.5 square kilometers.
With a height of 587.1 meters, Yangtai Mountain is the second highest in the city and the highest in the west of the city. When the forest park is finished, experts expect more than 18,000 visitors a day.
By the end of 2010, the city government plans to build more than 15 forest parks with a total area of 365 square kilometers, which would account for 30 percent of the city's total land area.
