So far the number of Taiwan-invested enterprises in Guangdong province has exceeded 18,000, an increase of nearly 2,000 over that of 2003. The accumulative contractual amount of Taiwan investment has exceeded 35 billion USD.

Taiwan investment in 2004 showed some new features.

First, Taiwan investors have generally scaled up their investment. Many Taiwan enterprises have expanded their plant buildings and production on the existing basis. In Dongguan alone, 929 projects have received new investment of 770 million USD. Large Taiwan businesses have continued their investment in Guangdong. President Group, for example, invested 30 million USD in a new plant in Huidong County, Guangdong province.

Second, more and more young Taiwanese are coming for jobs in Guangdong as reflected in the management mix in Taiwan enterprises. Second-generation Taiwan investors are now taking the torch from their predecessors and are involved in corporate management.
