Seven cities in South China's Guangdong province are listed as China's top 50 competitive cities, according to a recent study conducted by the China Institute of City Competitiveness from Hong Kong.

Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Foshan, Zhuhai, Zhongshan and Huizhou are selected as China's 50 most competitive cities, while Hong Kong, Taibei and Shanghai top the list.

The study grades 280 Chinese cities based on their current overall competitiveness, investment environment and government reliability as well as their prospective.

Gei Changfang, Chairman of China Institute of City Competitiveness said the study covers their economic growth and dynamism, resources, business and infrastructural development, along with culture.

According to the ranking, the most competitive cities on the mainland are mainly located in the coastal areas near the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta and region around the Bohai Bay.
But the gap between this region and old industrial cities in western and central China is continually widen.
