A report from the Information Times says China's Guangdong Province is to raise the minimum wages of workers by an average 8.6% as of December 1st.
According to the report, all businesses in downtown Guangzhou are to raise the minimum pay to their employees in line with the new policy, which stands between about 350 Yuan, or $40 dollars per month and 700 Yuan, or $85 dollars, per month, over seven grades.
Before the increase comes into effect, the minimum monthly wages for the seven grades of employees ranged from 280 to 500 Yuan per month.
The article says it's the sixth time the province has raised the minimum wages since the system was introduced in 1993. And the new wage hike include subsidies for extra work, for work in an adverse environment as well as necessary insurance.
