Farmers in Guangdong who have followed the family planning policy will be eligible for a bonus after they pass a certain age.
A regulation dealing with the bonus had been approved at a provincial government work conference, media reported Wednesday (Mar. 3).
It is one of a series of measures instigated by the province concerning a family planning bonus system and an occupational pension system.
Male farmers more than 60 years old and female farmers over 55 who have only one child (through natural birth or adoption), or have two daughters, or have no child after marriage, may receive 80 yuan (US$9.6) per person each month. The bonus will be given to every qualified farmer for life.
Meanwhile, an occupational pension system will be established in Guangdong. The system is voluntary insurance in addition to obligatory basic old-age insurance. Funded by enterprises or employees and enterprises together, the money will go to the accounts of employees.
