Source from the State General Administration of Sports said the State Council of PRC approved Guangzhou's bid for the 16th Asian Games in 2010.
Guangzhou has held the 1st World Women's Football Tournament, Thomas Cup and Uber Cup Badminton, and the 9th China National Games, etc in the past 20-odd years. The city's organizing ability and sports facilities are approved by Mr. Samaranch, former Chairman of International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Mr. Rogge, IOC Chairman.
After approving by the State Council of PRC, Guangzhou Government will put in application to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in the name of the Chairman of Chinese Olympic Committee before Dec. 20. The appraisal mission of OCA will exam extensively on Guangzhou for 2010 Asian Games in March next year.
