A Guangzhou-based factory has been recently appointed by the Brazilian Government as the sole provider of condoms, expected to provide 220 million to this year's competition.

Official figures show that there are 1 million legal sexual workers in the FIFA World Cup host country. The government estimates a growing demand on their service will appear during the games and AIDS control will become its most pressing public health issue. According to the condom manufacturer, the Brazilian Government compared different manufacturers globally and finally chose it as the provider. The Guangzhou factory, as one of the world's largest in its industry, also took an order from the South African Government of 35 million condoms in 2010 for the previous World Cup.

The manufacturer is the first condom factory in China and the country's first in the production and sales turnover of condom. Yet it is not famous domestically for it mainly produces condoms for a world-renowned brand. It hoped the made-in-Guangzhou condoms that appear in the World Cup could let more people know about its products.
