“Guangdong gives priority to the cooperation with Russia in its new round of opening up, and hopes to unleash potential for cooperation in investment, energy, high-tech innovation, tourism and other fields with our Russian friends”, said Deng Haiguang, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, in his address to the reception celebrating the Russian National Day on June 22th.

2014 is the 65th anniversary of the establishment of China-Russia diplomatic ties. In recent years, all fields of cooperation, including political, economic, military, cultural, etc, are elevated by both two sides. The leaders of two countries meet each other annually during both the bilateral and international sessions.

From provincial level, pragmatic cooperation between Guangdong and Russia is deepened. The trade volume between Guangdong and Russia reached 7.987 billion USD last year, up 3.05% over the previous year. Guangdong and St.Petersburg officially established twining relationship this January, which is a milestone for the two sides.

“An initiative to set up a branch of Moscow State University in Shenzhen is actively promoted”, said Mikhail Medvedev, the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Guangzhou, in his remark. It can be foreseen that Guangdong will develop a more intimate partnership with Russia.
