Passengers waiting for flights at Shenzhen International Airport will be able to enjoy some live chamber music tomorrow afternoon.

Shenzhen Concert Hall is organizing the free performance, which is intended to make travel less stressful for passengers.

Starting tomorrow, the performance will start at 3 p.m. every Thursday for the coming three months in the airport.

A string quartet consisting of violinists Zhang Lei and Zhang He, violist Wu Xiaodi and cellist Ning Hanqiao will perform several familiar pieces, including “Chit-Chat Polka” and “The Blue Danube” by Johann Strauss, Jr.; “Gavotte” by Bach; “Radetzky March” by Johann Strauss; and “Butterfly Lovers.”

All four string artists are versatile musicians associated with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra.

Shenzhen Concert Hall presents three regular public performances: Afternoon Music Time on Saturdays, Beautiful Sunday concerts and lectures, and outdoor performances at the waterfall plaza outside the concert hall on weekend evenings.

“The free show at the airport is a new effort to promote classical music among the general public,” Shenzhen Concert Hall spokeswoman Kuang Tianqi said. “We will make it another regular series. The choice of programs will be entry-level, melodious pieces easy to appreciate. Most probably, many passengers will find themselves humming along with the music.”
