Guangzhou Metro Line 6 welcomed its first passenger in the afternoon this weekend (Dec.28). The city has nine metro lines with 166 stations.

In the first half day, metro line had 308,000 passengers, according to the Guangzhou Metro Corporation, who added that it is expected to serve 700,000 passengers per day in its initial phase of operation.

After putting into use, Line 6 will shorten its departure interval to 3 minutes and 22 seconds during morning and evening rush hours (from 7.30am to 9.00am, from 5.30pm to 7.00pm).

The line passes several parks such as Liwan Lake Park, Donghu Park and Shamian Park, and it also links up the popular shopping area including Beijing Lu Pedestrian Street. It is expected to become one of the hottest lines in Guangzhou.

There are toilets set in most of the stations on Line 6, which is a great convenience for the passengers, according to Guangzhou Metro Corporation.
