Zhuhai City building to become hub

A three-year campaign to help make Zhuhai a transport hub city on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary got under way at a meeting last Monday. Called for are construction of seven major infrastructure projects within that timeframe.

These efforts include construction of a skeleton road network and railway lines to match completion of the delta bridge in 2016 and to boost the city's development, a government official announced.

The seven projects are to cost 28 billion yuan ($4.6 billion) and will make use of government financial revenues, bank loans and public funds in terms of BT (build-transfer), BOT (build-operate-transfer), TOT (transfer-operate- transfer) and other approaches.

Jinqin Expressway: Starting from Jinding and accessing the Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway East Line, the 32.55km expressway runs southward through the Beijing Institute of Technology Zhuhai College, Beijing Normal University Zhuhai Campus, Fenghuang Mt, Putuo Temple, Zhongshan-Zhuhai border, West Renmin Road, Zaobei, Nanping, Jiangjun Mt, Hengqin Bridge and ends at Hengqin Checkpoint.

Xianghai Bridge: The 19.82km route, including 16.3km bridge and 3.52km link line, runs from Xiangzhou westwards through Tanzhou in Zhongshan, Doumen and access the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Expressway West Line, riverside thoroughfare, Jiangmen-Zhuhai Expressway and other key transport lines. It ends at Huxin Road of the Doumen S272 provincial highway.

Honghe Bridge and Hezhou-Gaolan Port Expressway (part of the delta bridge west extension line): The 12km line bridge from Hongwan to South Hezhou Interchange includes the North Jiangmen-Zhuhai trunk line, while the Hezhou-Gaolan Port Expressway and South Hezhou Interchange-Gaolan Port Expressway are up to 30.1km long.

No1 Streetcar Phase II: The 10.2km project starts at the first-phase Fenghuang Mt Park Station and ends at Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity MRT Zhuhai Station via the Sports Centre, Jinan University Zhuhai Campus in Qianshan, Jiuzhou Avenue and Guihua Road.

The rest of the streetcar loop line: The 9km No2 Streetcar Route starts at Jiuzhou Port in the east and reaches Nanping Station via Jiuzhou Avenue and across the Qianshan River Watergate. The 9.8km No3 Streetcar runs south from the intersection of Fenghuang and Meihua roads and gets to the transfer to the No1 Route at the terminal via Haibin and Jingshan roads in Jida, Shuiwan, Qiaoguang and the intersection of Qiaoguang and Guihua roads in Gongbei.

Nanping No2 Bridge and Baishi Bridge: The 558m Nanping No2 Bridge with 300m access passage and 1,150m link road and the 668m Baishi Bridge with 300m access passage and 300m link road are both over the Qianshan River.

Renovation of South Lovers Avenue main and auxiliary roads: The 9.53km project starts at the Viewing-Macao Platform in Gongbei and ends north of Hengqin Bridge via Changsheng Road, Changsheng Bridge and Nanwan Avenue in Wanzai. (ZD News)
