Hong Kong confirmed on Monday its first case of H7N9 bird flu as a 36-year-old Indonesian domestic helper has been hospitalized in critical condition.

Secretary for Food and Health Ko Wing-man said that the patient had contact with poultry while traveling to Shenzhen.

After knowing the confirmed human H7N9 infected case in Hong Kong, Guangdong Department of Agriculture required all the agricultural and farm departments, especially Shenzhen, to enhance the disinfection of fresh markets and the virus check and control.

The Department has not received any abnormal poultry disease report after Hong Kong’s case.

The Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention said they are waiting for Hong Kong’s investigation on whether the virus source of the confirmed human case is from Shenzhen Poultry Market. The center added, the 37 check units scattered in the city are on high alert for H7N9 virus human infection prevention. So far, the Center has not found H7N9 human cases in the city.
