Italian Visa Application Center Opens in Guangzhou

The new Italian Visa Application Center (IVAC) was inaugurated on November 25, 2013. Mr. Giuliano Pisapia, Mayor of Milan, attended the inauguration ceremony.

The center is designed to accommodate the expected increase in visa applications in the years of 2014 and 2015. It includes 20 serving windows as well as a VIP room. In addition, the Italian Gallery offers a space entirely focused on showing the best of what Italy can offer abroad through pictures and art exhibitions, "Made in Italy" product exhibitions and a video related to the most appealing Italian destinations.

The new IVAC is supposed to play a key role also in promoting the EXPO 2015 for Chinese people. Mr. Giuliano Pisapia, Mayor of Milan, mentioned in his speech that around 20 million visitors were expected to visit Italy during the Expo. So Italy is working closely with its European partners in order to simplify rules and procedures related to visa issuance.

He mentioned that Milan and Italy are working together to reach even more ambitious goals and particular attention was attached to improve its capacity to receive tourism. For example, a new boarding area as well as a new arrival area in the airport of Malpensa has been built in order to become a new important hub.

Mr. Benedetto Latteri, Consul General, also stressed the importance of new IVAC Premises, "In 2012, we have handled 48,000 visa applications, and it's expected to reach 60,000 in 2013. In the period of 2008-2013, we have witnessed an average annual growth of 22%; in other words, the figure has been tripled from 2008. It takes an average 4 days for visa issuance, and only 3 days for tourism and business purpose visas."
