Pick-pockets from outside China are believed to make an appearance at the Canton Fair, Guangzhou have Police said.

The police have received intelligence that professional gangs of pick-pockets from foreign countries who target trade fairs will appear at the Canton Fair in this session, in addition to homegrown thieves. In retaliation to the situation, the police have for the first time assembled a team of 40 plainclothes officers to protect the fair.

According to the police, the foreign pick-pockets dress like businessmen, bring suitcases and have authentic buyer's cards. They are often in a group of two or three people pretending to negotiate business with the exhibitors, and steal the exhibitors' belonging when they are distracted.

In the last session, two pick-pockets from different countries were arrested, police said.
