On May 31st, the foundation stone laying ceremony for Sino-Israeli Industrial Park for International Collaboration in Science and Technology was held in Songshan Lake National High-tech Industrial Development Zone, Dongguan City.

On 31st May, a stone laying ceremony was held in SongShan Lake's National High-tech Industrial Development Zone, in Dongguan, to commemorate new plans for international collaboration between China and Israel. This latest project outlines a 380mu (253,334 square metres) "Sino-Israeli Industrial Park for International Collaboration in Science and Technology".

As the first industrial park to be constructed by international collaboration between China and Israel, the project will proceed in phases. The first phase will centre on a 190mu (126,667 square metres) area with a total investment of 1.5 billion RMB. It will primarily seek to establish further Chinese-Israeli cooperation on multiple projects but most notably water-treatment technology enterprises, and those involved with strategic emerging industries such as electric vehicles, green technologies and biomedicine. Upon completion, the Park will boost wastewater treatment management in Dongguan and across the Pearl River Delta region. Field experts believe the park will become China's future "water valley", a hub for wastewater treatment, plus technological development and associated marketing.

"The Park will set an example in Sino-Israeli cooperation. Guangdong Province and Dongguan City will become the forefront of Sino-Israeli cooperation," said Shalom Simhon, Israel's Minister of Industry, Trade and Labour.

Dongguan massed a foreign trade turnover of US$137 billion in 2011, ranking 2nd throughout Guangdong Province. However, last year's volume of trade between Dongguan and Israel accounted for only US$160 million, which suggests an existing trade gulf between the two parties. Xu Jianhua, Dongguan's Party Chief, is hopeful that the Park will set a good example for Sino-Israeli cooperation and pave the way for more Israeli enterprises to settle in Dongguan.
