Shenzhen will unveil measures such as increasing parking fees in non-residential areas and suspending official vehicles once a week to encourage green commuting.

At a news conference organized by the Shenzhen Municipal Government Information Office, Yu Baoming, vice head of the transport commission, said Shenzhen will increase parking fees during the day at non-residential areas. The detail of the plan will be released soon.

Official vehicles of government agencies, State-owned enterprises and public institutions will be forbidden from entering roads at least one day every week. Yellow-labeled vehicles will be suspended for one day a week starting July 1. Yellow-labeled official vehicles will be suspended for two days a week starting July.

The exact number of official vehicles in Shenzhen is not known. According to a government release, Shenzhen halted 24,000 official vehicles, accounting for 84 percent of the total, on the day of the opening ceremony of the Universiade last year. Therefore, the city is estimated to have at least 28,500 official cars.

Under the restrictions, at least 4,000 official vehicles will be halted per day in the city.
