The Shenzhen city development and reform authority has formulated fares for five Metro lines which will open at the end of June.

The highest fare will be 11 yuan (US$1.69) from Airport East Station on Metro Line 1 to Shuanglong Station on Metro Line 3.

Metro fares are calculated by distance. A passenger has to pay two yuan for the first 4 kilometers and an additional one yuan for very 4 kilometers up to 12 kilometers and additional one yuan for every 6 kilometers from 12 to 24 kilometers.

For more than 24 kilometers, the fare will be an additional one yuan for every 8 kilometers.

The fare schedule covers 131 stations on the five lines.

In another development, work on Metro Line 8 between Luohu and Xiaomeisha in Yantian District will start next year and is expected to be completed between 2015 and 2016.

The line has exchanges with Metro Line 1 at Guomao Station, and with lines 2 and 5 at Huangbeiling Station.

The line is expected to relieve traffic congestion between Luohu and the city’s east coast.

Shenzhen Press Group started circulating the free Shenzhen Metro newspaper at 16 stations on Metro Line 3 on Monday, in addition to Metro lines 1 and 2.
