As of 12 p.m. July 24, Guangdong has administered a total of 150.9669 million vaccine doses of COVID-19, covering 86.5746 million people, as per data from the provincial health commission. And on the same day, Guangdong started mass vaccination for population aged 12-17, which is due to be completed by September.

Of the 126 million population in Guangdong, 68.70% have received at least one vaccine dose, and 52.87% - 66.6271 million have been fully vaccinated (double-jabbed).

Among the vaccinated population, people aged 18-59 have reached 82.013 million in number and received altogether 145.6613 million doses, with those vaccinated once accounting for 98.78% of the particular age group, and double-jabbed, 79.30%.

To those aged 60 and above, vaccination adds up to 5.2773 million doses for 4.5335 million of the population, among which 29.13% received at least one dose, and 5.06% received two.

Mass vaccination initiated for teenagers aged 12-17

Since July 24, Guangdong has initiated mass vaccination for people aged from 12 to 17 and intended to cover all the eligible by September.

According to the arrangement, the plan will be phased over three months (July to September).

Stage 1 (late July): first dose of vaccination for those aged from 15 to 17

Stage 2 (August): first dose of vaccination for those aged from 12 to 14; second dose of vaccination for those aged from 15 to 17

Stage 3 (September): second dose of vaccination for those aged from 12 to 14

And remaining unvaccinated population aged from 12 to 17 will all receive theirs before the end of September.

The specific schedule may vary in different cities, and for more details, notices of municipal governments shall be of great help.

For now, the vaccines available are inactivated vaccines produced by two companies only - Beijing Institute of Biological Products and Sinovac Research & Development, with the same dosage and delivery system. To be fully vaccinated, two injections are required at an interval of more than three weeks, and if possible, less than eight weeks.
