These Guangdong women win national award for their outstanding contribution

March 8th marks International Women’s Day. China has one of the world’s largest female workforces and these ladies have made profound contributions to society as well as the country’s development.

March 8th marks International Women’s Day. China has one of the world’s largest female workforces and these ladies have made profound contributions to society as well as the country’s development.

Today, China awarded 300 outstanding women and 199 public institutions for the efforts made by their female employees. 10 of the 300 awarded women are working in Guangdong province. They have made achievements in different sectors such as science, business, traditional culture and poverty alleviation.

Lu Yutong is the director of the National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou and the deputy chief designer of Tianhe-2, a supercomputer developed by a team of 1,300 scientists and engineers.

Wu Suping is the co-founder of Yuan Lang, a popular egg roll producer based in Zhuhai. Wu Suping has also put strong efforts in charity and local development over years.

Yao Xuanqiu is an 85-year-old Teochew Opera artist. She has been teaching and promoting Teochew Opera even since her retirement. Many Teochew Opera performers who are now active in Singapore, Malaysia and the United States were the students of Yao.

Yin Wen is a senior researcher at the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2005, she joined the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) project at IHEP. She is also the Principal Investigator (PI) of the Multi-Physics Instrument (MPI), the first neutron total scattering diffractometer in China. 

Huang Liping is a public servant of Zhongshan Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau. She spent 3 years in Tibet and 5 years in poor villages in Yunnan to help local people improve their livelihood through agriculture. During her stay in Medog, a county of Tibet, Huang helped develop the tea industry into the pillar industry of the village and brought than 25.7 million yuan extra income to local people.

Li Xianhua, is a public servant of Zhaoqing’s Guangning County. She helped alleviate poverty through raising funds, developing agriculture industry and building charity schools.

In addition, 6 of the 199 awarded public institutions are based in Guangdong. These institutions include a hospital, fire station, schools, volunteer association and female entrepreneur association.
