According to a statement released by the press office of the Guangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau yesterday (February, 25th), an article about ‘a female foreign teacher in Guangzhou molested students’ is a rumor.

After investigation, it was found out that a netizen surnamed Ma (male, 33 years old, Helongjiang local) recently spread that rumor on social media including chat groups on Wechat to profit from the high hits. Ma has admitted that he made the whole story up and posted it online on purpose.

Currently, the police have arrested the rumormonger who will be detained for 10 days as a punishment.

The police hope that all residents can play a positive role in building a clear and harmonious cyberspace, do not publish unverified information on the Internet and, under no circumstances seek to create or spread rumours.
