Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport handled about 43.7681 million passengers in 2020, surpassing Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which handled about 42.9187 million passengers, to become the world's busiest airport in 2020, according to data recently revealed.
In November of 2020, the passenger traffic of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport surpassed the number before the outbreak of Covid-19, achieving a monthly passenger traffic of 5.01 million passengers.
The recovery of passenger traffic of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport benefited from the effective control of Covid-19 and rapid resumption of work in Guangdong. In 2020, Guangdong's GDP exceeded 11 trillion yuan, ranking first in the country for the 32nd consecutive year, according to the province’s newly released government work report.
As an important transportation hub in the Greater Bay Area, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport will undergo a new planning. According to the new plan, it will gather a variety of vehicles simultaneously such as aviation, highways, high-speed rail, and urban rail to connect transportation in the sky and the ground into a modern comprehensive transportation system.
