Wu Ziwei, a senior officer of Nansha FTZ Management Committee said Nansha is a pilot district for joint projects between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. “The conference aims to gain insights into the demand for mutual recognition of employees’ qualification certificates in such fields as architecture, education and medical care, and to discuss strategies to boost exchanges and cooperation for the next step. Our goal is to build Nansha the prior choice for Hong Kong and Macao professionals to set up their businesses and to facilitate talent flow through the Area.”

Nansha released a plan to push forward the mutual recognition of workforce skill qualifications between Hong Kong and Macao in 2019. Thus far, Nansha and Hong Kong have developed a cooperative mechanism in the architecture and urban planning sector. It launched a pilot project to explore a way to hire Hong Kong and Macao teachers boosting exchanges in the education sector. It also started working on matching Hong Kong and Macao doctor’s certificates with the local standards.

In addition, the district has also hired 7 Hong Kong and Macao arbitrators for labor arbitration, and started considering a skills assessment mechanism for Hong Kong and Macao professionals working withinconstruction and transportation projects.

The Qingsheng transit complex project is the first construction project managed by a Hong Kong team after Nansha has established the cooperative mechanism with Hong Kong in the architecture and urban planning sector.

Xie Yuehua, deputy GM of Sun Hung Kai Properties Investment Consultancy (Guangzhou), said the mechanism did help the company putting Hong Kong professionals on record and applying for related approvals on the Chinese mainland. “The Nansha government offered us great assistance during this procedure. Now that the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed train enables our employees to commute between Nansha and Hong Kong in just 30 minutes, our project is one month ahead the plan.”

Xie Yuehua added “we strongly support the work on mutual recognition of our certification as it will allow Hong Kong-funded companies to maximize their strengths and further cooperate with Guangdong companies.”

The conference was organized by Guangzhou Nansha FTZ Management Committee and Jinan University, and supported by Nansha FTZ Innovation Bureau as well as related government departments.
