The Guangzhou Municipal Commerce Bureau released an instruction on June 15th, calling businesses in the city to reinforce their strategies to prevent the COVID-19 outbreak.

The instruction indicates the risk of a COVID-19 rebound still exits based on the recent situation nationwide. It aims to ensure the health of citizens while maintaining steady economic recovery.

The instruction stresses people must wear mask and accept temperature checks if entering and working in the shopping malls, supermarkets, wholesale markets and restaurants. Those with body temperature higher than 37.3 ℃ or respiratory symptoms are forbidden to enter these crowded areas, and are suggested to go to a nearby fever clinic.

The wholesale markets should help customers to keep proper social distancing especially at the entrances. They must stick the ‘Suikang’ guideline outside the building and require all people to show one of the four health certificates before entering (These certificates include Suikang Code (blue, green), Yuekang Code (green), documents that prove you have completed the required quarantine and NAT report).

People who go to a hotel must provide their health status and travel history. People with travel history to high risk areas must be guided to the designed hotels for medical observation. The hotel staff must mark down the name and contact details of every check-in customer.

The institution also highlights district governments and enterprises need to better communication about these measures with the public to gain understanding and improve their knowledge about virus prevention.

District governments and related enterprises must continue monitoring on both customers and staff of shopping malls, supermarkets and farmer’s markets. They should also have strict inspection on the source of food supplies and make continuous feedback.

The district governments will have stricter and more frequent checks on business areas, and detect people with travel history to the Xinfadi market or people with close contact. They will require nucleic acid tests on people with potential risks to prevent virus spreading further.

As of June 16th, Guangzhou has organized 1893 checks on farmer markets, malls and supermarkets as well as 163 checks on cold rooms. All the samples collected from these places are negative for the virus.
