Guangzhou announced the stricter management of communities, and closure of cultural and entertainment venues in rural areas today, after 284 cases were confirmed in the city as of midnight February 6th. Community residents are now required to show certification to enter the community, and must submit to temperature checking. Enterprises, institutions, owners or other leasers of rental houses shall bear the responsibility for disease prevention and control.

Non community/village residents and vehicles shall not be permitted to enter the realty management area. Parcels and take-outs shall be delivered to designated areas for storage and management, and collected in person by customers.

Amid the peak of people returning from holiday, those who come back to Guangzhou shall report their heath condition to their community via the Wechat program ‘Suikang’(穗康). Anyone who is found to have concealed travel or residence in high-risk areas, or attempts to lie about their health status and cause the spread of the epidemic, will be dealt with according to the laws and regulations put in place to control the spread of the virus.

People who are still in high-risk areas shall not return to Guangzhou until the first-level public health emergency response is removed. Residents returning from regions with major outbreaks in the past 14 days, shall be quarantined at home or designated quarantine centres. If there are no respiratory symptoms present, the quarantine period will not exceed 14 days.

Anyone showing symptoms including fever, cough, shortness of breath and other respiratory difficulties, should report themselves to the community, and take preventitive measures (e.g. wear a surgical face mask), and visit the fever clinic nearby.

Guangdong reported 1,034 cases as of afternoon February 7th and a first-level public health emergency response has been in place since January 23rd.
