Guangdong reported 16 new novel coronavirus cases, raising the total number to 813 as of midday February 3rd. More infected patients were cured and discharged from hospital.

Guangdong Provincial Government held the 10th press conference regarding the fight against the coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in Guangzhou today, announcing all Guangdong universities will start their spring semester after February 24th.

Measures implemented to ensure the safety of teachers and students

According to the press conference, February 3rd is the first working day after the Spring Festival national holiday, Guangdong tightened measures to battle the epidemic. Employees currently in central China’s Hubei province should not leave the province and return to Guangdong without permission. Returned personnel who traveled or stayed in Hubei province within the past 14 days should register and undergo 14 days of observation and examine for the virus.

The 2020 spring semester for all colleges in Guangdong will start no earlier than February 24th due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.  

Teachers and students who are either from Hubei or have been there recently will have medical observation for 14 days.

Some schools will also offer online courses or teaching to students.
