The cultural festival has been successfully held on 12 occasions since it was established in 2008. This year’s event featured a special fashion show, dances, musical performances, as well as typical food and drink from different countries. It attracted thousands of students and residents.

The festival was hosted by the School of International Education and organized by the students themselves. All the foods and snacks were made by the students based on the original recipes, and some of the ingredients were brought over from their homelands.

Gary Chan from the UK is studying Chinese at the university. As a member of the university’s International Student Union (ISU) and an organizer of the event, Gary and his team members had been preparing for the event for about four to five months. He said it was a big challenge for them to pull all the things together, and that they tried their best to make sure that the event happened successfully that day.

Wang Qingnian, Dean of School of International Education, SCUT, told the reporter that the school now has more than 2,400 students from over 120 countries across the world. Every year, various activities are held for the students to demonstrate their own cultures, to involve them into the school’s daily management and teaching, and to help them to achieve their full potential. Apart from this festival, other activities include FEAST VIT, African Day, a photography competition and more.
