"Kwong Wah Yit Poh has close connection with Zhongshan. In 1910, Sun Yat-sen founded the newspaper in Penang, Malaysia. Up to now, we still adhere to Sun Yat-sen’s philosophy ‘the whole world as one community’ to serve the overseas Chinese community,” said Mr. Nang Chian Ping, news editor of digital news of Kwong Wah Yit Poh Press Berhad after visiting Sun Yat-sen's former residence in Zhongshan.

Zhongshan, a city at the west bank of Pearl River, has Zhuhai to its south, Guangzhou to its north, and lingdingyang waters and Shenzhen to its east. The city, connecting the two banks of Pearl River, is now sparing no effort to seize the significant opportunity brought by the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and are consistently enhancing the city’s capabilities, aiming to become a major hub of the GBA.

On September 5th, the Southeast Asian Media Greater Bay Area Tour visit Zhongshan, including the Museum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the management center of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, the Cuiheng New Area Planning Exhibition Hall and the town of lightings Guzhen, getting a taste of both the city’s culture and rapid development.

In Cuiheng, a village in Zhongshan, stands a two-story house made of wood and brick. Distinct from other residences in the village, the former residence of Sun Yat-sen combines both Chinese and western and architectural features.

The journalists were excited about visiting the residence. “Overseas activities were an important part of Sun Yat-sen’s revolutionary career. Especially in Southeast Asian countries and regions, the geographical location is convenient, and there are many supports from overseas Chinese. Mr. Sun Yat-sen shared deep roots with us," said Bui Anh Tuan, a reporter of Vietnam News Agency.

After the visit, Mr. Nang Chian Ping told our reporters about his story of ‘seeking roots’ in Zhongshan. “Kwong Wah Yit Poh was founded by Dr. Sun Yat-sen in Penang, Malaysia, in 1910, but I had no chance to visit Zhongshan before. When I come to Zhongshan this time, I find that the city is full of vigor and has kept a balance between development and environmental protection.”

Ben Yuen Hui, a reporter of The Star of Malaysia, also said that she was very interested in the history. She is very familiar with many of Sun Yat-sen's deeds.

The under-construction Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is the only direct highway connecting the two city clusters of ‘Shenzhen-Dongguan-Huizhou’ and ‘Zhuhai-Zhongshan-Jiangmen’ and will be a key artery serving both the Guangdong Free Trade Zone and the GBA.

From the perspective of technology, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is a world-class project consisting of bridges, islands and tunnels, said Sun Jifei, vice editor chief of Indonesia Shang Bao. “After the opening of the bridge, Zhongshan would gain big benefit. The city will be connected to the four core engines of GBA- Hong Kong, Macao, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, more industries of the city are able to go out and achieve a broader development space.”
