Guangzhou-Hong Kong Sci-Tech Cooperation Park opened in Guangzhou on August 28th. A total of 18 new programs were signed off on at the opening ceremony and a further 13 were initiated, with overall investment totalling 152.3 billion RMB.

Most of the programs are projects from Guangzhou-Hong Kong joint ventures or Hong Kong-funded strategic emerging industries like hydrogen energy, AI and smart devices.

An initiative linking Huangpu district, Guangzhou high-tech zone, Guangzhou development zone and Hong Kong SAR, the park will play an important role in integrating Hong Kong and Macao's innovation pool with the Guangdong-Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

The University of Hong Kong is set to cooperate with Guangdong in terms of industry, education and research in the three zones where platforms for cooperation have been provided, according to Zhang Xiang, President of the University of Hong Kong.

The Beijing-Guangzhou Collaborative Innovation Center, will be built in the 19.8-ha core area of the park. It is designed to improve the transmission of technology and industry flow between Beijing, Guangzhou and Hong Kong as well as promoting innovative development in pursuit of win-win cooperation between the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region and the GBA.

Moreover, on its opening day, Huangpu Laboratory, built in Guangzhou for the purpose of interdisciplinary sci-tech integration and frontier research, signed off on a number of innovation programs with sci-tech organizations and famous enterprises to develop advanced research institutes in the GBA.

Ma Caiwen, secretary of the Party committee and vice director of the Xi’an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics at CAS said, "We hope to be part of the GBA's development and take full advantage of the strength of national scientific research institutions to contribute to sci-tech development."
