China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) confirmed that a magnitude 2.7 earthquake hit Guangzhou Zengcheng district at 10:49 a.m. on August 6. People in Zengcheng district reported feeling the quake for about two seconds.
The quake was also felt in other districts of Guangzhou and Dongguan. According to Guangzhou officials, this quake may have affected Zengcheng, Huangpu, Huadu and Baiyun districts. No damages have been reported.
Experts are checking the quake details at the epicenter and are still monitoring the situation. According to seismologists, a 2.0 earthquake is a normal phenomenon along the earth's crust and destructive earthquakes are not likely to follow. This is the second time an over 2.0 earthquake rattled Zengcheng district. A magnitude 2.1 earthquake once hit Zengcheng at 15:52 p.m. on April 24, with the same focal depth of 13 kilometers.
