Since the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) was released, Guangdong has introduced a series of policies to promote connectivity between Guangdong, HK and Macao.

Faster transportation

New transport infrastructure, and a new traffic network in the GBA is quickly taking shape. The opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge encouraged more entry-exit trips. According to official data, from January to May, the number of cross-bridge trips reached about 11 million. Since April 29, cross-border private cars with Shenzhen Bay Port permits have free access to the bridge for two years.

The Nansha Bridge also opened in April, one month earlier than planned, and is the first transport infrastructure to be utilized after the Outline Plan, shortening the journey from south Guangzhou to Dongguan by 10 kilometers.

The Hong Kong International Terminal in Foshan, came into service on July 9, blazing a trail in seamless connections between Foshan and HK airport service.

More convenient life

The facilitation of the GBA benefits residents in education and employment. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is planning to set up its new campus in Guangzhou's Nansha district. The construction and enrollment of this campus will begin at the end of 2019 and the first students will begin taking classes in Hong Kong in September.

The Guangdong Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU) is working to broaden employment channels. With the purpose of promoting the employment of Hong Kong and Macao residents, the service system will be expanded to include different sectors such as policy, law and financing.

According to the GFTU, the GBA personnel service mechanism will be set up to integrate resources and advantages from Hong Kong, Macao and the mainland, and contribute to improving the facilitation and high-quality development in the GBA.
