The weather in Guangdong is extremely changeable and Guangzhou saw temperatures of up to 27℃ yesterday. According to the Guangdong Meteorological Observatory, temperatures in Guangdong will continue to rise and thunderstorms will hit most parts of the province during Qingming Festival (April 5th to 7th).

Torrential rain will sweep northern Guangdong and some areas of Pearl River Delta during the holiday. Coastal cities and counties will see dense fog in the mornings and evenings with low visibility.

About Qingming Festival

Qingming, literally meaning "clear and bright", is one of the 24 dates that divide the solar year on the traditional Chinese calendar. The day heralds a season of rising temperatures and increasing rainfall, traditionally seen as high time for plowing and sowing.

As a festival, Qingming is believed to have a history of about 2,500 years and Chinese people have since developed several traditions attached to the day. The most important tradition during Qingming is to honour ancestors and commemorate deceased family members and relatives, usually at their grave sites, by cleaning or refurbishing the site and making offerings. Thus, Qingming is often translated into Tomb-Sweeping Day in English.
