Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said Tuesday that China hopes to see all relevant working groups under the six-party talks mechanism to carry forward their work as scheduled and achieve tangible results to attain the common goal of denuclearization in the Korean Peninsula.

Li made the remarks at a press conference held on the sidelines of the ongoing Fifth Session of the Tenth National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature.

He said the six parties should turn the spirits in the Joint Document adopted on Sept. 19, 2005, into concrete actions to ensure a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula.

The implementation of the document, the development of the six-party talks, and the denuclearization in the Korean Peninsula, are of high importance to the peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula and in northeast Asia, Li said.

China advocates a peaceful solution to the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue through dialogues, and China is willing to keep close contacts with all the parties concerned to make new progress in the talks, Li said.

He noted the progress made in the latest third phase of the fifth round of six-party talks is a further step to achieve the goal of a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula.

"Facts have proven that the six-party talks are a practical and effective means to resolve the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue," the minister said.
