Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi urged on Friday tourist and transportation departments across the country to improve their services during the upcoming week-long May Day holiday.
China's expanding tourist industry has given people better holidays, increased domestic consumption and fueled regional economic development, said Wu.
During this year's May Day holiday, tourist and transportation departments must take precautions to ensure that accidents involving heavy casualties do not occur, said Wu.
Wu also called for greater efforts to further develop rural and suburban tourism in line with local conditions.
Police will be on the lookout for false advertisements, overcharging, gambling, pornography and illegal publications in scenic spots, said Wu.
