Chinese State Councilor Zhou Yongkang said Sunday that the harmonious development of society implied paying close attention to resolving people's key worries and protecting their interests.

Zhou, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and minister of public security, made the remarks on a recent tour of southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Zhou said the protection and improvement of people's livelihood is a key priority. The reasonable demands of people should be met, their legitimate rights protected, and social conflicts prevented and minimized, Zhou said.

He urged Chinese police to maintain social fairness and justice, and crack down on crimes to protect people's safety.
