Several years ago, No. 1000 Changping Road in Shanghai's Jing'an District was a dilapidated workshop of Shanghai's window catch factory. Now "Creative Industry Center" is marked at its entrance. After the planned construction started by the Jing'an District government, this place has earned a reputation as "animation industry base" in the city and the citadel of numerous creative animation design companies.
The transition of a manufacturing workshop in the past to a creative factory nowadays foretells an approaching era of the new economy, which means that the "made in China" era is beginning to move towards the "created in China" epoch.
Since early this year, the measure taken by Shanghai and other comparatively developed regions has been "transplanted" to the whole country. China, shortly after learning the concept of "creative industry", has thrust headlong to welcome this "creative era".
Take Beijing as an example. According to an official of the industry development department under the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform, another five creative industry clusters are under construction in the city in addition to the "Beijing creative center" in Dongcheng District. They are the Digital Entertainment Demonstration Base in Shijingshan District, the Zhongguancun creative industry leading base, the National New Media Base, the industrial design creative industry base in the Desheng Science Park and the Dashanzi Art Center in Chaoyang District.
"Currently the global economy has entered a new phase featuring a more profound reform of knowledge economy. In fact, developing the creative industry is a necessary choice to catalyze China's economic transition," said Dr. Wang Qin from the Institute of Industrial Economics under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in an interview.
At present, the investment-driven economic growth mode can no longer exert its effect, and China is focusing on the "third carriage" to drive economic growth, namely the force of consumption. Meanwhile, China is transforming from a supply-oriented economy to a demand-oriented one. Prof. Jin Yuanpu with Renmin University of China indicated that developing the creative industry will keep exploring new consumption space, accelerating the transition of consumption methods and cultivating new consumer groups to raise domestic demands and also realize consumption-driven economic growth.
