HK welcomes Pan-PRD companies
Latest Updated by 2004-08-25 08:47:02

Hong Kong Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology John Tsang said Tuesday (Aug. 24) that Hong Kong welcomes companies from Pan-Pearl River Delta (PRD) Region to establish high-value added manufacturing ventures, and trade and serve ventures in Hong Kong.

Tsang said at a Pan-PRD regional cooperation symposium that cooperation between Hong Kong, Macao and the nine provinces and autonomous regions of the Pan-PRD region should be implemented and their respective advantages given into full play under a principle of "mutual benefit and advantage complement."

To seek chances to be brought about by the regional cooperation, the drafting of a unified regional infrastructure construction plan, especially the communications construction plan is highly necessary for speeding up regional development, adding that creating a fair and open market environment is also important.

Tsang said the regional cooperation could help Hong Kong businessmen to establish new manufacturing bases in the other parts of the region, beside its neighboring Guangdong Province, in an effort to reduce product cost.

Related government departments of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will host various kinds of trade and investment promotion symposiums and activities to introduce Hong Kong brand products to the Chinese mainland and the act will serve as a springboard for the Chinese mainland enterprises' to invest abroad, the official said.

Tsang also suggested further regional cooperation in the tourism sector, in a bid to encourage the exchange of visits of people from Hong Kong and other places in the region and attract more overseas tourists to the region.
