Kuwaiti Consul General hopes to further Zhanjiang project this year

Kuwait wishes to further Zhanjiang refining & petrochemical project this year, said Kuwaiti Consul General in Guangzhou Mr. Abudulwahab Alsager in an interview with Newsgd.com.

Zhanjiang refining & petrochemical project, constructed by KNPC and China petrochemical industry, kicked off construction in Zhanjiang Donghaidao last year and the current construction went smoothly. "We can't release the detailed construction schedule currently, as the carrying out of the project involved problems in technical level." "We hoped the project can be further emphasized and carried out after the meeting of delegation headed by the governor Mr. Sheikh Ali Jaber Al-sabah with Zhanjiang municipal leaders this time." said Mr. Abudulwahab Alsager.

This mega project which costs 90 billion USD is expected to be completed in 2014 and it will yield a capacity of refining 15 million tons of oil and producing 1 million tons of ethylene per year. It also facilitates other economy and investment department in China.

"Currently, the two sides are actively carrying out the initial phase of the project such as the land acquisition and resettlement as well as terminal building." said Zhanjiang Executive Vice Mayor Zhao Zhihui, "The initial phase construction got positively approval from the residents." Zhao said.

"As Zhanjiang is positioned as a port city, Zhanjiang refining & petrochemical project and Zhanjiang Iron and Steel Project will help actively promote Zhanjiang into a port-based indusial base." Zhao said. "To facilitate the refining & petrochemical project, the construction of Zhanjiang petrochemical industrial park with an area of 30 square meters in initial phase has already kicked off. The industrial park will be built into a petrochemical industrial cluster with integration of storage, production, processing and transportation." Zhao added.
