From 28th November, the Museum of Medical Specimens in the Zhongshan School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) will be opened to the public free of charge. After its opening, it will provide the general public alongside that of medical students with a great scientific opportunity to explore the wonderful world of the human body under the guidance of a professional commentator. Unfortunately, museum staff can only accept group visits at the moment, so those people interested have to form collective groups of 20 people or above, and reserve in advance in order to visit the museum.

Construction work on the Museum of Medical Specimens commenced in February 2009, and has now been completed two and a half years later. It consist of four specimens galleries for Anthropotomy, Human Histology and Embryology, Human Pathology and human parasitology, in which most specimens are prepared by teachers and experts of the Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU. After several generations of accumulation, the total number of specimens is now more than 3000.

Chu Guoliang, the Head of the Teaching and Research Section of Anthropotomy of the Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU, introduced that the specimens here on display indicating they are all well made, with some even rare specimens from around the world. For example, some of the specimens of Pathology and Parasitology were nonesuch for there was a slight chance to collect such specimen again at present. Mr Chu also indicated that the number of trematode specimens locatesd here occupied the national first place in China, which seldom medical school had all around the world. He also stated that the Zhongshan School of Medicine intends to promote the donation of human bodies by opening its Museum of Medical Specimen.
