The 15th National Taekwondo Championship of China will take place in Qingyuan, Guangdong Province from April 21 to 25 as a selective competition for athletes representing the country in the Guangzhou Asian Games this November.
Beijing Olympics and Doha Asian Games gold winner Wu Jingyu (right) will take part in and championship.
More than 40 teams will compete in eight men's and eight women's classes in the championship, which will be largest and highest-profile Taekwondo event of China, according to Xinhua News Agency.
Zhao Lei, Deputy Director General of the Boxing and Taekwondo Management Centre of the General Administration of Sport of China and Secretary General of the Chinese Taekwondo Association, said the championship will be the last and most important selective competition for the Asian Games. He added that the champions can be almost assured of places in China's Asiad delegation.

Mr Zhao revealed China will target two gold medals in Taekwondo at the Guangzhou Asian Games. "The Chinese Taekwondo Team's best performance at the Asian Games was three golds in Doha in 2006," he said. "There will be more competition in Guangzhou and we are going to try our best."
