1st Asian Games venue Tianhe Gymnasium finishes renovation

As Tianhe Gymnasium finished its Asian Games venue renovation project for the forthcoming Asian Games, the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (GAGOC) rolled out a site tour to Tianhe Gymnasium to share experience in Asiad venue construction and renovation on Jan 26.

 

  The renovation project of Tianhe Gymnasium is finised for the forthcoming Asian Games.

Officiating guests at the event included Xu Ruisheng, Executive Deputy Secretary General of GAGOC and Vice Mayor of Guangzhou Municipality, Tian Xinde, Deputy Secretary General of GAGOC, Gu Shiyang, Deputy Secretary General of GAGOC and Guangzhou Municipality, and Liu Jiangnan, Deputy Secretary General of GAGOC and Director General of Guangzhou Municipal Sport Bureau.

By comparison with the renovation project of Tianhe Gymnasium which sets a framework for GAGOC to plan all other venues, GAGOC ran the event to review achievements and progress made at the Asian Games venue construction and renovation and modify the construction plan accordingly, targeting on-time delivery of competition venues of high quality.

Mr Xu reiterated that newly-built venues should feature the uniqueness of Lingnan culture and make full use of new technologies while post-game usage should be taken into consideration for renovated ones. And he urged that all teams involved should be working closely on venue construction and be responsible for ensuring they are run safely and efficiently.

"Asian Games venues are expected to boasts obstacle-free facilities and post-Games utilisation, making them an important legacy for the host city and Guangzhou residents," continued Xu.

Mr Tian specified tasks for venue construction when GAGOC is heading into the next planning phase. A detailed report on construction progress against sports venues of the 16th Asian Games was presented by Peng Gaofeng, Director of GAGOC Venues Department, and Luo Guangzhai, Director of the Guangzhou Administration Office of major Public Construction Projects, introduced the renovation project of Tianhe Gymnasium and management experience of other municipal sports venues.

Up till now, construction of the Guangzhou Asian Games venues remain on track and over 50 percent of construction works have finished. Tianhe Gymnasium is the first Asian Games venue to finish renovation and will be running as the model venue which will establish the framework, standards and principals, including lighting, competition facilities and information system etc; by which GAGOC plan all other venues.
