"The 110th Canton Fair will be a grand event of international trade, resulting from its many activities, high level profile and gathered highlights", said vice-minister of the Ministry of Commerce Jiang Yaoping, when briefing on the development of China's foreign trade and the preparation for the 110th Canton Fair at the press conference of the News Office of the State Council on August 23.

Jiang Yaoping stated, so far, the Canton Fair has experienced transaction volumes amounting to 900 billion USD and 6 million buyers, which made the fair one of the largest, the most recognized and effective trade shows in the world. This Canton Fair will take place in the Pazhou Exhibition Center between October 15 and November 4, and will be divided into three stages.

In response to a journalist's question whether the coming Canton Fair is in keeping with the requirements of the 12th Five Year Plan to promote trade transformation and vigorously develop strategic emerging industries, Jiang Yaoping said it would do so upon its holding in the first year of the 12th Five Year Plan. That is, the Canton Fair will optimize not only the main structure of enterprise, but also the commodity structure of the exhibitors, as well as the ongoing market structure.

Another question asked referred to the special movement for an all-country crackdown on IPR infringements along the lines of the good effects achieved last year, whether this year's Canton Fair will carry out further new measures on IPR protection? Jiang Yaoping replied that in August 2004, the State Council published the action plan on IPR protection and required this model to be adopted in the China exhibition industry. As the important window showing the endeavor of Chinese Government of effectively protecting IPR draws to a close, the 110th Canton Fair will strengthen China's protection the work in this regard.
