China (Shenzhen) Intellectual Property Protection Center helps accelerate patent authorization. The average processing time for the authorization of a patent that has been pre-examined by the center has been shortened to 58 days, according to data released by the center Monday.

Once a patent passes the pre-examination by the center, the project can be listed on the quick review track by the China National Intellectual Property Administration.

The average processing time for an invention patent authorization has been cut from 22 months to about three months.

The fastest time for utility patent authorization is three days and one day for industrial design patent authorization.

Fast pre-examination of a patent is a service offered by intellectual property protection centers to shorten patent authorization time and a measure to increase the efficiency of patent review.

Over two years since the Shenzhen center’s establishment, the center’s pre-examination has bolstered the application of scientific and technological innovations in Shenzhen, according to Shenzhen Special Zone Daily.

As of March this year, the center had handled 5,425 pre-examination cases.

A total of 3,692 of these were handled last year, up 514 percent from a year earlier, ranking first among protection centers at sub-provincial and municipal levels in the country.

The authorization rate of patent applications pre-examined by the center has reached 92.3 percent. The average pre-examination period has been cut to 4.9 days.

As of March, 1,717 companies had registered at the center. It has provided fast pre-examination services for 745 innovation businesses.

It is also reported that the center has explored a new model to cut the time of foreign patent filing from the original three years to within one year, helping over 300 pre-examined inventions gain overseas patent authorization.

For example, Xuyu Optoelectronics’ LED packaging and cooling technologies that had been pre-examined by the center gained the invention patent authorization by the United States and Japan within five months and a year, respectively.
