Most public places such as restaurants and hairdressers have reopened as the city adjusted its COVID-19 prevention and control strategy amid the declining number of new infections, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.

A family of four in Guangming District were among a number of residents that visited the OCT Farm park in the district Sunday. The mother, identified as Lin, said that the family outing was long-awaited as her two children had stayed home for about two months due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The city’s anti-epidemic command office issued a notice that allows most public venues, except for places like shelters and nursing homes, to reopen for business starting Sunday, paving the way for the full resumption of work in the city. Employees who have no travel history to high- and medium-risk cities within 14 days of returning to work are not subject to pre-job isolation.

According to the notice, the focus of the city’s virus prevention and control efforts has been shifted to imported cases in Shenzhen.

Under the new anti-epidemic policies, all travelers to Shenzhen are required to have a nucleic acid test at the port of their entry and undergo a 14-day collective quarantine at their own expense.

The notice stipulates that more entrances should be opened at all residential compounds, including urban villages, across the city. Previously, each residential complex was allowed to have only one entrance open, where residents had to go through temperature checks and disinfection when going in and out of the estate.

A female resident in Longhua District surnamed Li said that her life seemed to be getting back on track after she received a parcel delivered to her apartment Sunday morning.

Li said she had visited a hairdresser to get her hair done before doing some grocery shopping in a mall near her home. “You will see more people on the street now,” she said, adding that there was a long line of residents waiting to get into the mall Sunday.

The changes in the virus prevention and control efforts came in as Shenzhen has not reported any new non-imported COVID-19 cases since Feb. 22 thanks to a string of tight prevention and control measures responding to the COVID-19 outbreak.

However, the city’s welfare center and nursing homes remain closed to visitors. Public cemeteries are also closed, and memorial services such as sea burials are not available to avoid cross-infection in the otherwise highly likely gatherings during the upcoming Qingming Festival. Residents are advised to avoid all kinds of gatherings.

The notice also said that regular disinfection should be carried out in public venues such as buses and elevators, and public places should be kept well-ventilated.
