The Beijing branch of WEbi English shut down its six centers recently. It has aroused great concern among the students and their parents. According to Nanfang Metropolis Daily reports, WEbi has also closed three centers in Chengdu and four in Tianjin. However, the Guangdong branch, operating nine centers in both Guangzhou and Foshan, two in Dongguan, and eight in Shenzhen are running as usual by now.

The WEbi English (Beijing) alleged that the students can choose online classes or transfer to other centers as a substitute, or apply for refunds. In Shanghai, Tianjin and Chengdu, related government departments have started to investigate the issue and urged WEbi to safeguard the students' legal rights and interests.

However, for some students, it seems hard to get the refunds. According to some students’ parents, some of the counselors of the center used to recommend them to use online installment payments for the expensive tuition, such as JD Baitiao and Baidu Wallet. That means they still need to pay for the installment until they receive the refunds.

In another case, a student who has spent 348,000 RMB to purchase WEBi's two-year English courses said that he went to the school on September 28th to request a refund but was rejected by the staff, for not having a financial and official seal. They requested him to return on the 8th of October. It is also reported that all employees in Beijing haven’t been paid a full salary for at least one to three months.

Webi English was established in 1998 and has become one of the well-known English training brands in China with over 200 centers across the country.
