Shenzhen Party chief Wang Weizhong met with the visiting delegation from Kaohsiung of China’s Taiwan region led by Kaohsiung Mayor Han Kuo-yu at Wuzhou Guest House yesterday afternoon.

The delegation yesterday also paid a visit to a Taiwan youth innovation and entrepreneurship base in Qianhai and an urban operation management center, and watched a light show in Futian.

Today, the delegation will go to the Higreen farm produce wholesale market in Pinghu, Han’s Laser Technology Co. Ltd., Tencent and the administrative service hall in Nanshan District.

Before Han and other members of the delegation came to Shenzhen, they also visited Hong Kong and Macao.

Han arrived in Hong Kong on Friday morning, attended an agricultural product promotion event and witnessed the signing of eight deals on selling Kaohsiung’s agricultural, fishery and processed products.

At the signing ceremony, Han said his trip to Hong Kong aimed at “making friends, selling goods and inviting more friends in Hong Kong to visit Kaohsiung for tourism or investment.”

“We are expecting closer exchanges between Kaohsiung and Hong Kong in the future,” he said.

Before the signing ceremony, Han met with Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Chief Executive Carrie Lam, who said more high-quality agricultural and fishery products are welcome to be exported from Kaohsiung to Hong Kong or be re-exported via Hong Kong to other places in the future.

On Friday evening, Han had dinner with Wang Zhimin, director of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in the HKSAR, and then toured Victoria Harbor by ferry with about 50 representatives of the Hong Kong tourism industry.

The delegation left Hong Kong on Saturday morning and headed for Macao via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

On the world’s longest cross-sea bridge, Han said the “heartshaking” bridge, with an “amazing view” and “smart design,” could provide a model experience for bridge construction all over the world.

Chief Executive of the Macao SAR, Chui Sai On, met with Han on Saturday to promote economic and trade exchanges between the two regions.

Chui said that after its return to the motherland 20 years ago, the Macao SAR has made great progress in such areas as economic development, social stability, livelihood and cultural development, making Macao one of the richest and safest cities in the world.

The recently issued Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area clearly defines the role of Macao in the national development strategy, and provides new spaces and more opportunities for Macao’s development, he added.

Han said that he was impressed by Macao’s rapid socio-economic development, adding that there was great potential for cooperation between the two places, particularly in the export of agricultural products.

The visiting delegation from Kaohsiung signed US$23.3 million worth of agriculture and fishery product contracts with buyers from the Macao SAR on Saturday.

Han will also visit Xiamen in Fujian Province after leaving Shenzhen. (SD News)
