Second season of ‘Memoirs of Canton’ being telecast

The second season of Memoirs of Canton, a documentary series reflecting Cantonese culture, recently debuted on China Central Television’s documentary channel and will run on 11 satellite TV channels.

The second season titled “The Shinning Pearl”, which comprises two episodes, examines the cultural similarities shared by Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, Macao and Hong Kong.

The episodes, which cover a period spanning from the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) to modern times, s features dozens of historical figures as well as the area’s unique cultures embodied in various fields, including local martial arts clans, Cantonese Opera, its dialect and Cantonese-dubbed films.

Earlier, in November, the documentary series which premiered its first season in 2016 was listed as one of the “Top Ten Documentary Features” by China Television Artists Association.

The first season will have its global debut on Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific later this month.
