2018 Art Canton Contemporary Art Fair kicked off in Guangzhou Liuhua Exhibition & Trade Center on Friday, November 16th.

It attracts famous artists and critics such as Yi Ying and Wei Ligang, and features a special section for international exchanges which gathers more than 20 foreign artists from all over the world. Until November 19th, you can enjoy their works that are created through different mediums and with both Eastern and Western characteristics.

The fair is a part of the Art Canton which is a large-scale art expo held under the direct guidance of the Guangdong Provincial Cultural Bureau.

Wu Shaoning, chief curator of Art Canton, said they aim to provide artists with a platform to promote their works and connect with the mainstream market. “Apart from the function of trading and promotion, the fair will present the public a taste of art and inject an academic element,” he said.

Walking through the booths, you can find exotic pieces created by lots of foreign artists. And Daniel Kocev Pazamat is one of them. He is a visual artist from Macedonia and has lived in Guangzhou for 7 years.

Daniel said this is his second year to exhibit in the fair and he brought bigger paintings than usual. “What the contemporary art fair is doing is magnificent. It’s very helpful for foreign artists to have such a platform to present and promote our arts.”

“South China including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao are more focus on business. But in fact, I saw lots of great art shows, small galleries and pop-up exhibitions in the city, for example in Dong Shan Kou,” said Daniel, “I hope there will be more promotion and consider it as my mission to promote art and inspire people to explore different aspects of life.”

Justin Ole Fisher, an artist from Australia, joined the Art Canton and is one of the curators of this year’s fair. He said he got to know many artists because of Art Canton and now he is also building up overseas artists network.

“Because of my connections and Art Canton, I can act as a bridge and allow Guangdong and countries which are interested in Guangdong open up to each other, boosting exchange between artists,” said Justin.
