Wuzhen to host 5th World Internet Conference on Nov 7

Organized by the Cyberspace Administration of China and the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, the 5th World Internet Conference (WIC) will open in Wuzhen, Zhejiang province on Nov 7, to run for three days.

The news was unveiled on Sept 28 at a press conference of the State Council Information Office attended by Liu Liehong, deputy director of the Cyberspace Administration of China and Ge Huijun, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee.

The annual event was first held in November 2014 when it attracted prominent internet figures from nearly 100 countries. This year, themed "Creating a Digital World for Mutual Trust and Collective Governance — Towards a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace", the WIC has sent invitations to more than 1,500 guests from all around the world including government delegates, international organization representatives, leading figures of Chinese and foreign internet enterprises and renowned experts and scholars.

A total of 19 sub-forums are scheduled at the Wuzhen International Internet Exhibition & Convention Center and Waterside Resort in the West Gate Scenic Area of Wuzhen on Nov 8 and the morning of Nov 9. They will center on the five themes of "Innovation-driven Development", "Universal Security", "Openness and Inclusiveness", "In Pursuit of a Better Life" and "Common Prosperity". Guests will share their insights on how to create a peaceful, secure, open and cooperative cyberspace, and how to set up a multilateral, democratic, and transparent global internet governance system.

According to Liu, the 5th WIC will have new features compared to previous events. It will include more concentrated themes, inheritance and innovation of previous conferences, more in-depth international exchanges, greater accomplishments and smarter conference services.

"It will further enhance the establishment of an Internet development outlook characterized by mutual trust and collective governance among countries worldwide," said Liu.

The conference will advocate exchanges, mutual learning, cooperation and sharing in the digital fields and push for peace and development of global cyberspace, he added.

Ge said Zhejiang is fully committed to the preparations for this year's WIC and its supporting activities, anticipating a great event of enhanced international influence.
